After Super Mario Run, Nintendo then launched their all-time famous Role Playing Game (RPG) franchise for the iOS users on February 2, 2017. The original franchise consists of fifteen installments and the game is based on tactical grid-based environment and fighting system. Like most traditional RPG games, Fire Emblem also incorporates an engaging and intriguing story and characters to the regular fighting game that makes it even more addicting.

So this was a brief intro to Fire Emblem and the original video-game but what features Nintendo have implemented to make the iOS version to make it worth playing on your handset. Let’s get started with the review!

Enough hype has been going on various forums related to iPhone and iPad as many Nintendo fans were excited before the release of the game and many are still happy with it. However, there are some flaws too and few fans are disappointed.

Characters

The Fire Emblem Heroes have a number of heroes to summon for the battle. Most of the heroes are right from the original Fire Emblem franchise while others are newly created characters for the mobile phone version. The new characters are created by the famous Yusuke Kozaki, who is best known for his awesome work for two Fire Emblem games i.e. Fire Emblem Awakening and Fire Emblem Fates. Not all the heroes will be on your team, as some will may stand in your way and to bring them to your side, they must be defeated first.

There are almost hundred characters in the mobile version of the game and it would be quite tiresome to discuss all of them. So, I will let you discover most of them by yourself and will talk about only a few most hyped and loved ones.

In the Fire Emblem Heroes, Takumi is the most wanted hero that every player wants to summon to his team because of his exceptional steel archery skill set. He is a powerful character and can really give an edge if on the team.

Besides these three, there are so many other heroes such as Hector: the Ostian General, Lucina: Future Witness, Linde: The Light Mage and much more.

Levels

Since it’s a story based RPG game, so the levels are generally for heroes. You can train in the training tower and engage in battles repeatedly to gain experience and increase abilities of your heroes. The more skilled your players are the more powerful they will become. It’s a general tactic in almost every RPG game to level up characters as much as you can for an edge in the battle.

Difficulty Level

The Fire Emblem Heroes becomes difficult just as you progress through the story and quests. The enemies become stronger and fights require more tactics to be implemented. Rank up your team, summon more powerful heroes like Takumi to turn the balance to your team and win battles with ease, however, you are required to skill up your team as much as you can to face the increasing difficulty competitively.

Fire Emblem Heroes iOS Gameplay

The gameplay of Fire Emblem Heroes is almost same as the original franchise. There is a grid base environment and you are required to move with tactics and battle enemies to progress through the quest. The tiny difference is that the environment is a bit more vertical to match the mobile screen compatibility.

The game features many attributes from the original game but it does not have the Permadeath attribute. For those, who are unfamiliar with the permadeath, it was an attribute that once a hero dies, he cannot return to the team throughout the quest i.e. he dies permanently.

The game navigation is mobile friendly, and users haven’t complaint about these a bit. However, the only complaint most players have the rolling for summoning the heroes to the team, as it requires orbs that can be earned by battling enemies or through in-app purchase with real currency. It often gets difficult to get good characters and most people just keeps on rerolling until they get their desired heroes.

Graphics & Sound Effects

The graphics and sound effects are highly appealing and add an extra level of fun and excitement to the adventurous story-based role-playing game. The visuals are almost like the original Fire Emblem franchise. The characters are beautifully created and the various locations are pleasing to the eyes.

Other Special Features

In the mobile version of Fire Emblem, besides the story mode quest, there are other modes too that lets you play the game more than once. The creators of the game have also committed that they will introduce new characters and quests from time to time to keep the game interesting.  Besides the story mode, there are:

Arena Battles – This mode lets you fights against your rival all over the globe. The reward will be according to your ranking and experience. These rewards can help you make your heroes more powerful and skilled.

Hero Battles – These battles can be found under the special maps and are available for a limited time only. In these battles, you will find various heroes against you. Fight them and win to bring these rival heroes at your side.
