Bellus3D is working on an advanced 3D face scanning app that takes eerily realistic face scans without any extra hardware on iPhone X.
The company made an announcement earlier at CES 2018 that it will be releasing its face scanning camera this year for $499. But with the release of iPhone X, Bellus3D has changed its direction by morphing its software into an iPhone app, bypassing the requirement of purchasing any external expensive hardware.
You can try out both the app and Bellus’ original hardware. The two options are almost identical. If you look at the lens of the iPhone and position your head a bit to right or left, it captures your face map with about 250,000 data points to generate the final image.
The company is planning to introduce the same method to export 3D models, which can be used in a multitude of other applications in the future.
The app is currently in the testing phase. But if you want a hands-on feel right now, go to Bellus3D’s website. A full App Store release planned for later on this year.
There are a lot of questions about the app. What do you think? Is Bellus3D onto something? Will 3D scans become the next big thing? Let us know in the comments below!
