Now, look at that! Apple has been offering water resistance for its smartphones since iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. The latest iPhone X also carries the same IP67 dust and water resistance. In simple terms, an iPhone X can stay submerged in the water for 30 minutes at 1 meter or 3 feet. However, a recent event shows that the $999 smartphone is a tough cookie.
A few weeks back, popular YouTuber Dallas, known for his channel Man + River, went on what he calls “river treasure dives.” After finding lost objects on the river bed, he tries to return them to their owners. A recent video posted on his channel earlier this weekend shows “one of his favorite river treasure dives so far”.
After discovering some other lost items like sunglasses, 10K ring, and other random knick-knacks, Dallas found a silver iPhone X. He took it out of the water. Most of us would give up on a phone that has been in the water for weeks. However, he did not.
After drying and cleaning up, he was amazed to see the phone was still in working condition. When the owner named Alyssa was contacted, she was thrilled to hear about the phone she lost two weeks ago. Her biggest relief was finding pictures of her baby safe and sound since she was a new mom and did not find the time to create manual backups.
Interestingly enough, she wasn’t even using a waterproof case but the phone survived for two submerged weeks.
Here I would like to mention that even though iPhone X is splash, water, and dust resistance, Apple does not cover water damages.
