Apple has finally released its new update, iOS 11.2.2, that addresses the vulnerabilities found in Intel Chips.
The Cupertino giant has highlighted the improvements in security and recommends all users upgrade as soon as possible.
Meltdown & Spectre vulnerabilities came to light last week and were termed as critical vulnerabilities that could take benefit of speculative execution mechanism of a CPU, making it easy for hackers to gain access to private information.
While the issue of Meltdown was already addressed in iOS 11.2, Apple said that it’s working on Spectre early this week. There is no hardware solution for Spectre, so Apple is solving the vulnerability using Safari-based software workarounds.
The update is available for iPhone 5s and later and other iOS devices as outlined by Apple in their security issue statement:
“Available for: iPhone 5s and later, iPad Air and later, and iPod touch 6th generation Description: iOS 11.2.2 includes security improvements to Safari and WebKit to mitigate the effects of Spectre (CVE-2017-5753 and CVE-2017-5715).”
