Time to test it out! Apple has released the public beta of iOS 12 for both iPhone and iPad. This year, the operating system is focused on providing performance improvements and security enhancements. While this may sound a little boring, the new iOS version comes with user-empowering features too.
In this version, users will be able to set Siri up the way they want. There is the availability of Group Facetime where you and 31 of your friends can chat about anything you like. iBooks gets revamped to be become reader-oriented Apple Books.
Then, there is Screen Time, a time-track features that aims to help users create healthy usage habits. Coupled with the enhanced Do Not Disturb functions, iOS 12 focuses on the digital health habits of its users.
If you are an iPhone X user, you are in luck. You get advanced AR capabilities where you can measure objects, play multi-user games, and create mixed reality experiences. Apart from new Animoji characters, you will be able to build a new digital avatar by using Memojis.
The amazing bit about iOS 12 is its support for older hardware. During the WWDC 2018, Apple announced that the new iOS will work on iPhone 5S (or later).
While the new release might excite you, please be warned it is not a stable one. There will be a few broken bits here and there.
Still want to test it out? Sign up for the beta program now to get your free download. It would be great if you install this beta version on a spare phone or back your data up.
The final version of iOS 12 will be made available in a few weeks’ time.
