‘Black dot of death’ Bug Will Crash Your Messages App on iPhone or iPad

Yet another Unicode bug has been discovered in iOS that crashes the Messages app by overloading the memory.

As the name suggests, the message contains a ⚫ (black dot) emoji. However, it’s not the emoji that causes the app to crash. The ‘black dot of death’ affects the iOS 11.4 beta and the current iOS 11.3, and Apple has yet to fix the issue.

It’s important to note that this isn’t the first time Apple’s mobile software has suffered from a malicious Unicode bug. A similar single character message was wreaking havoc in iOS devices as well as Apple watch and Macs earlier this year.

While many bugs keep popping up to destroy your iOS experience, it’s great to know that Apple is super quick in squashing these bugs and releasing timely bug fixes.

Let’s hope Apple does the same in this case before they can register too many disgruntled users.
