According to a report from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, a new iPhone with triple-lens rear camera led by a 12-megapixel shooter and 5x (optical?) zoom will be introduced in the second half of 2019.
This will be the first introduction of a triple-lens rear camera in a new iPhone. The current lineup of iPhone 8 has a single lens with 5x digital zoom, and iPhone X has up to 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.
If this report proves to be right, then Apple will follow in the footsteps of Huawei which has already launched a new P20 Pro smartphone which also sports a triple-lens rear camera feature.
Triple lens camera can have the advantage of improved low-light performance. The Verge’s Vlad Savov said that Huawei’s new camera system is “superior to those on the Galaxy S9 and iPhone X.”
That is a juicy rumour for next year, but will it happen or not? We’ll see that in the future.
