2017 was an exciting year for smartphone cameras with all the big name manufacturers launching new products and bringing the best of their work to their customers.
But as far as cameras are concerned, Consumer Reports says that the iPhone X had the best smartphone camera in 2017.
iPhone X was introduced in November last year and shipped with the best in class camera. It has a dual camera setup with two 12MP sensors. One is a standard sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and the second a telephoto lens with an f/2.4 aperture. It also supports dual image stabilization.
On the front, iPhone X has a TrueDepth camera system that enables Portrait Mode in selfies, allowing for a blur effect that improves self-portraits.
Apple has done significant work on its software to complement the camera offerings on the iPhone X, introducing portrait lighting for adding quality lighting effects to your images.

The Consumer Report differs from DXOMARK, and in my opinion Consumer Report seems biased towards Apple. DXOMARK provides unbiased ratings due to its rigorous testing methods, and I’d suggest that you consider their rating to be more serious.
However, nothing takes away from the fact that the iPhone X does indeed has the best smartphone camera that exists right now.
