The HomePod is a niche product in the sense that it can only be used with iOS devices. Android just doesn’t cut it. AirPlay is central to using the HomePod and music can be streamed through it even if it is a third party library or service.

Before we learn how to stream music to your new HomePod, we need to clear a few things up first.

You cannot use Siri to control music playback. That can only be done via Apple Music or iTunes Match. You’ll need to manually control your music from your iPhone/iPad or through the HomePod’s control panel.

So how to stream music on HomePod through Spotify, Soundcloud or other sources. Read on:

Step 1: Open the Control Centre on your iPad or iPhone.

Step 2: Click the Audio Options icon at upper right corner of the now play section.

Step 3: Select HomePod.

Once you have executed these steps correctly, any audio playing on iOS device will play through the HomePod.

If you want to send the audio back to your iPhone or iPad, follow the process again, only this time, you select the iPhone or iPad instead of the HomePod and you are good to go.
